Cost-effective healthcare

When Andrea Ashman, joined MidKent College she quickly identified that levels of sickness absence at her new employer were high

When Andrea Ashman, Executive Director of Corporate Services HR, joined MidKent College she quickly identified that levels of sickness absence at her new employer were too high. She knew from a previous role that Benenden could help provide the college with a cost-effective solution for employee healthcare. A solution which is also being used by independent schools across the country.

Andrea saw a direct link between the introduction of healthcare from Benenden for her staff and a reduction in the cost of providing cover for staff sickness. In particular, Andrea has seen long-term sickness levels reduce significantly. Additionally, she has seen a reduction in short-term sickness and also a reduction in issues related to stress and anxiety.

Staff at MidKent College have benefited from access to Benenden’s 24/7 GP helpline and also to the 24/7 psychological wellbeing helpline, which assists with stress and anxiety concerns. Andrea says, as well as showing their commitment to overall staff welfare, there is a real business benefit to having Benenden healthcare at MidKent College. Benenden’s ethical and not-for-profit status chimes well with the education sector, which is shown in the fact that schools and colleges form a large percentage of Benenden’s customers.
