Dover College is celebrating an inspection report that passes the highest possible judgement in all areas of its provision, most significantly those of leadership and management, the safeguarding of pupils and governance.
In teaching and learning, GCSE performance was judged to be above the national average and teaching was found to ‘enable pupils to make good progress and encompass effective behaviour management.’
Inspectors found that leadership and management demonstrated ‘good skills and knowledge’ so that standards are ‘consistently met’. The school was found to actively promote the well-being of pupils ‘promoting good behaviour, preventing bullying where possible and ensuring that all staff are suitably checked.’

Headmaster of Dover College, Gareth Doodes is pleased with the report.
"The report is a result of two years of concerted hard work by staff who undertook a root and branch review of every policy and procedure in the school. We’ve focussed on high level teaching and learning, a pastoral care system that is focussed on the individual child, and an environment that encourages children to think differently," he said.
The College’s report comes after a November 2014 inspection failed the school in a number of significant areas which the new Headmaster, who arrived in January 2015, was tasked with turning around.
"Thanks to a superb team of staff, committed and involved governors, wonderful pupils and supportive parents the College can now focus upon growth and development, planning for an exciting future in terms of developing facilities in view of its 150th anniversary in 2021, and ensuring the best provision of any school in the South East," added Doodes.
