Green solutions at The Renewables Event

The Renewables Event, the UK'¬ôs only conference dedicated to onsite renewable energy generation, returns to the NEC on September 16-17

With the renewable energy landscape constantly evolving, this year’s show at the Birmingham NEC is a must-attend event for anyone managing utilities and sustainability in education facilities.

Co-located shows

September will see not just one, but four environmental shows take place at the NEC. Co-located with The Renewables Event will be The Energy Event, The Water Event and RWM 2014 in partnership with CIWM.

All are free to attend for The Renewables Event ticket holders and offer the perfect opportunity to buy, network and gather expertise from across the full environment industry.

Exhibitor highlights

This year’s exhibitor lineup will showcase products and technologies from the full microgeneration spectrum. Key exhibitors include Alpha Financials Environmental, Siemens Financial Services, Solarsense, Total Gas & Power, Viessmann Ltd. and Econergy.

For anyone interested in solar PV and thermal, exhibitors showcasing their products include Juwi Renewable Energies Limited, Lark Energy and Solar Century Holdings Ltd.

New exhibitors for 2014 include GF Sustainable, who will showcase the Ilios Gas-Fired Heat Pump, Energy Efficient Technologies and Systems Ltd, Eve Trakway and air-conditioning specialists Sedna Aire.

Conference programme and speakers

This year’s free conference programme will welcome more than 25 industry expert speakers in a range of seminars, panel debates and case studies.

Headline speakers not to be missed at this year’s conference include chief Greenpeace scientist Doug Parr and Nina Skorupska, chief executive of the Renewable Energy Association.

The challenges posed by a multi-site renewables strategy will also be discussed in depth, with a case study by Lloyd Bentley, compliance and energy manager for the London Fire Brigade. The session will explore how the London Fire Brigade utilises a range of technologies, including solar PV, solar heating, CHP and wind across multiple sites in the city.

Sustainable education and business engagement are the key themes to be explored in the panel session, ‘Supporting the growth of renewable energy - Education, qualification and getting businesses to take it seriously’. The session will feature discussion from Dave Sowden, chief executive of the Sustainable Energy Association and Rob Holdway, director of Giraffe Innovations.

Sessions are also available to offer a more detailed look at specific technologies and their potential, such as heat pumps in the session ‘Examining the opportunities for onsite heat generation: Harnessing the power of heat pumps’ and the panel discussion ‘Anaerobic Digestion: The ups, the downs, and making it work for your business’.

Finally, for anyone looking to stay abreast of the latest developments in sustainability, the panel discussion ‘The future of the renewable energy mix - The game changers’ will feature a comprehensive breakdown of the sector’s leading technology.

The session will explore the significant developments in wind and solar, and demonstrate how these technologies are being successfully utilised onsite by businesses. Speakers will include Caroline Holman, operational carbon strategy manager for CSR, Jaguar Land Rover, David Brown, owner of Hoe Grange Holidays and Iain Lochhead, operations director for John Dewars and Sons Ltd.
