Greens win Taunton mock election

A coalition of Communists, Labour and Plaid Cymru led by the Green Party came out on top in a mock election at Taunton School

Voters at Taunton School in Somerset went to the polls a little early as the school held its own mock election recently. There were eight candidates, who each put their case to the Old Library audience before a ‘Question Time’-style debate. After a secret ballot, the result revealed victory for the Green Party represented by upper-sixth boarder Will Coates.

“Issues ranged across the economy and austerity to Europe, Trident, taxation and university incentives for studying certain subjects,” said head of history Mark Chatterton. “At times things became a little heated and it appeared as if the revolution might be more imminent than we had suspected.

“Will Coates, who won 26.6 percent of the vote and has been asked if he can form a government, is seeking the agreement of the Communists, Labour and Plaid Cymru to enter into coalition with his Green Party.

“Such an alliance appears a likely outcome if the Communists decide to foment their revolution from within government.”

The other candidates were: Conservative, Kieran Bailey; Labour, Tia Hawkins; Lib Dem, Jack Malden; SNP, Tom Dunn; UKIP, Ed Shattock; Communist, Todd Freeman; and Plaid Cymru, Laura Brayley.
