Pupils at Highfield Prep School, part of Harrogate Ladies College, couldn’t wait to welcome their new Headteacher, James Savile, when he visited the school on Sports Day ahead of officially joining the school in September.

James will join Highfield from Salisbury Cathedral School where he is currently performing the duties of Deputy Head. He was also previously Head of Leweston Prep School in Dorset and Principal of Dolphin School and Noah’s Ark Nurseries in London.

Alongside his experience as a Headteacher, James is a Modern Languages specialist and has authored national exam papers in French. He is also an experienced sports coach with a particular interest in rugby and athletics, having coached a number of pupils to national level.

James, who began his teaching career 24 years ago, said: “I joined the teaching profession because I believe that every child is talented. As teachers it’s our privilege and responsibility to nurture and support each individual child and enable their talent to grow.

“I am so pleased to be given the opportunity to join Highfield Prep School. The school has an excellent reputation and I have been incredibly impressed by the children and the staff. There is so much happening on a daily basis to inspire the children and enable them to achieve great things.

It is my aim to continue to develop the school as a beacon of educational excellence that gives pupils a strong sense of community, respect for all and a life long love of learning.”

Sylvia Brett, Principal of the HLC family of schools which includes Harrogate Ladies’ College, Highfeld Prep School and Bankfield Nursery & Pre-Prep, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Mr Savile is joining Highfield. From the first time I met him I was impressed by his experience in prep school education, his integrity, his vision and his calm, approachable manner. He has an incredible passion for the development of young people and I know that everyone in the Highfield community will benefit from his strong leadership.”
