Pupils at Tettenhall College enjoyed a day of colour, culture and creativity to celebrate the Hindu spring festival of Holi.

The independent Wolverhampton school held its first ever Holi Festival Day celebrations on 13th March. Holi is also known as the ‘festival of colours’ or the ‘festival of love’ and prep school pupils dressed up in colourful clothing, and a group of Sixth Form students painted faces.

Pupils enjoyed watching a display by Bollywood Dreams dance company and learned dance moves and were also treated to a special assembly with an Indian drumming performance. Drum and dance workshops took place throughout the day with Dalbir Singh Rattan.

The pupils were also given the chance to watch a Bollywood movie at lunchtime and participate in Kabaddi games. There was also a special Indian-themed school lunch, provided by caterers Sodexo

Lessons were given a Hindu or Indian theme throughout the day to enhance pupils’ learning and understanding of the festival.

Matthew Jackson, Head of Boarding, who organised the day, said: “This was a fantastic day of celebrations which the whole school was able to participate in. Everyone embraced the festival theme and it was a great way for pupils to increase their understanding of different cultures.”
