Pete Johnson talks to students

Lockers Park pupils go unplugged

Visiting author promotes importance of tech-free time as part of National Unplugging Day

Hertfordshire author Pete Johnson recently visited Lockers Park Preparatory School pupils as part of National Unplugging Day to stress the importance of technology free time.

Johnson has just released How To Update Your Parents, another book in his Louis the Laugh’s adventure series, where Louis is subjected to a total ban on tablets, computers and mobiles by his parents. The author is in the middle of a week-long internet ban #gogadgetfree and visited Lockers Park as part of a local schools tour, encouraging the boys to take part in their own unplugged experiments and to break free from technology. Lockers Park year three, four and five pupils all ‘unplugged’ from technology the night before Johnson’s presentation to give them an insight into how Louis, the book’s central character, feels.

Headmaster, Christopher Wilson, says: “We were delighted to welcome Pete Johnson to Lockers Park. The issue of technology taking over our everyday lives is a very real one, particularly with warnings from parenting experts that digital devices can harm relationships and damage our face-to-face communication skills. At Lockers Park we seek to reinforce the importance of social interactions and to have Mr Johnson come in, engage with the pupils and encourage them to think about the impact technology is having on themselves and those around them was an extremely worthwhile and positive exercise.”
