As one of the leading academic equestrian schools in the country, Millfield has just launched an impressive new onsite facility, which will enhance riders’ training experience and host national events.

At the heart of the new equestrian cross-country course at Millfield Prep School is a ‘Glastonbury Tor’ obstacle, overlooked by the real iconic monument.

The new course, designed by London 2012 Olympic course designer Adrian Ditcham, uses the natural woodlands, fields and ditches of the campus, featuring a water complex and individually designed jumps, many with a school theme.

The new facility was unveiled at the first Millfield British Eventing (BE) horse trial in May, which featured almost 500 riders - including Millfield pupils and a legend of the sport, Mary King.

Danny Anholt, Director of Equestrian Sport at the school and organiser of the new BE event, said: “We are delighted with the outcome. The course, designed and built by Adrian, is superb and has received considerable accolade. Adrian consulted with me throughout the process and was imaginative in the school theme, creating a desk, cricket wicket and our own ‘Glastonbury Tor’.”

Millfield’s equestrian facilities have expanded since the school’s inception and now include an indoor school, four all-weather arenas, grass derby training course and hacking trails with the Prep school boasting 120 acres. Both Millfield and Millfield Prep’s equestrian facilities are in the heart of each of the two campuses, with 30 horses stabled at Millfield Prep and a further 60 at Millfield.

This new facility will host the Millfield BE event annually, as well as training days, clinics and potentially an inter-schools competition.
