The handover of new science and art facilities at QEH School

New facilities completed at QEH

Science and Art building handed over by Rydon for new academic year at QEH Bristol

An exciting new state-of-the-art facility for QEH School Bristol has been officially handed over by contractor Rydon ahead of the new September term.

The Science and Art block will provide new accommodation to meet the needs of an ever-changing curriculum for the nationally-recognised independent school.

During the event, Rydon’s South West Regional Director, Paul Barber, was joined by architect Quattro and consultant Ridge & Partners to mark the handover by passing the key to the Headmaster of QEH School, Stephen Holliday

Holliday commented: “We are delighted to be moving into our new Science and Art Building. The outstanding facilities constructed by Rydon will enable us to continue delivering a first class education for boys and, from September 2017, for girls at sixth form level.”

QEH has a long tradition of science as an important part of the curriculum, with nearly 70% of its A-level students studying a science subject. The development will enhance science provision by providing three high-tech Life Science laboratories.

Art is an expanding area of the curriculum and this project has also created a new ceramics Studio, with plenty of light and space to encourage creativity in its students.

Over a third of the boys at QEH now learn a musical instrument and this number increases year on year. The school will now be able to expand its ensemble rehearsal space and create more practice rooms.

Alex Rapley, Associate for Ridge & Partners, added: “The new Science and Art building will further the school’s capability of delivering secondary education to the highest standards in a modern and stimulating environment, providing further evidence of the school’s commitment to the STEM subjects.”
