RGS Worcester welcomes Worcestershire County Cricket Club

The school's sports facility will be the second home of the county cricket club

RGS Worcester’s beautiful and historic sports facility, Flagge Meadow, has been named as the second home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club and their 1st XI have this week played a practice match against Gloucestershire CCC, in readiness for major events at the venue in the future.

Pupils from RGS have played cricket on the city-centre ground since 1877 and the school recently celebrated Flagge Meadow's 130th anniversary.

Action was required to appoint a second home for Worcestershire County Cricket Club following flooding at the New Road ground, most memorably in 2007, and the school's sport field was chosen because of its superb facilities.

John Pitt, Headmaster, said: “It was a pleasure to host two excellent days of high quality cricket at our beautiful Flagge Meadow ground.  We were delighted to be able to share our stunning first class facilities with professional cricketers who were all very complimentary about our ground and the warm welcome that they received.  The practice match gave Worcestershire CCC players the opportunity to bat and bowl for two days in beautiful sunshine against their local rivals to prepare for the season ahead.  Everyone at RGS Worcester wishes the players, coaches and managers every success this summer.”
