Riverston signs Indian licensing agreement

International schools group Riverston expands offering in India with new early years venture

As part of its continuing international expansion in India, London-based international education group Riverston has signed a licensing agreement in Delhi with one of India’s best schools group, Banyan Tree Schools, for its new Early Years toolkit, assessments, accredited staff training and innovative early intervention resources.

Riverston, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, has an ‘Outstanding’ nursery and pre-school in London and at Beech Hall School, Macclesfield which it acquired last year. Riverston signed a joint venture with Delhi-based Pooja Talwar Education earlier this year and has already opened its first specialist children’s centre (London Learning Centre) in Vasant Vihar, Delhi with other centres due to open in the foreseeable future.

Prof. Michael Lewis, Executive Chairman of the Riverston Group, said: “My colleague, Jackie Harland and I have long recognised the potential to expand Riverston in India and have invested significantly in developing the best possible local partnerships. I have known the Trustees of the Banyan Tree School for many years and I am delighted we have agreed to work together to establish multiple new nursery and pre-school settings in India - with the first opening later this year in Lucknow.

"Banyan Tree Schools have been at the forefront of quality education in India since 1986. Today they are regarded as one of the best schools groups in India with nearly 5,000 students in Delhi, Lucknow, Jagdishpur, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Bhopal.”

Mrs Shalini Khanna, Director- Banyan Tree Early Years, said: “Whilst we already have several very successful early year settings, we have decided to establish multiple new nursery and pre-schools to cater for the increasingly well-educated, internationally focused and ambitious parents and children throughout northern India. To differentiate this new provision, we sought to work closely with an existing well- established international education group with outstanding experience in early year’s education.

“Riverston’s exciting Early Years Framework, assessments and resources will give our nursery and pre-schools a very distinct local advantage and we are delighted to have signed this agreement with Riverston via their local joint venture company. We greatly look forward to launching our first new nursery in Lucknow later this year and developing our educational partnership in the years to come.”
