Marathon charity run at Oundle

Over the weekend of 29-30 November, a group of Oundle School pupils completed a 24-hour non-stop run to raise money for two charities: Sporting Chance International and ZSL.

The team of runners comprised Tash Crawford (17), Lily Nicholson (17), Berry Campbell-Breedan (16), Alex Wallitt (17), Honor Bishop (17), Nell Turner (17), Jess Humphreys (17), Grace Cussons (16), Sacha Wight (17), Amelia Cookson (17), Ruby Goodall (15), Hope Dillarstone (15), Alex Cobb (18), Hester Coltman-Rogers (18), Gigi Campbell-Breeden (15) and Cara Nicholson (15). 

The average distance completed per runner was approximately 34.5km in thirteen 15-minute blocks throughout the 24-hour period (which the girls ran in pairs). Lily and Berry both ran individual whole marathons.

Sporting Chance International exists to improve the lives of young and needy people through sports, community service and related community-based interventions. It interfaces with people in diverse ways, with sports and health education as the foremost points of entry into the community. It predominantly works as an NGO in Kenya, running projects that have a lasting and individual effect on the participants.

ZSL runs conservation programmes in Britain and 50 other countries worldwide, working with local communities to conserve their environment and promote sustainability. Donations help protect endangered animals and their environments.

Organiser Tash Crawford Said: “The run went fantastically. All the girls put in so much effort and luckily there were no injuries and no one had to miss any of their slots. We have really appreciated all the support over the weekend and would like to thank everyone who helped and donated money to our cause. An extra thank you must go to the teachers who made it possible for us to complete this run by supervising us throughout the day and night.”
