ACS Cobham celebrates progress of new £15m boarding house

ACS Cobham's youngest boarder laid the final brick of multi-million-pound boarding house

Celebrating the construction progress of its £15m new boarding house, ACS Cobham’s youngest boarding student, Melissa Assis, laid the building’s final brick as part of a ‘topping out’ ceremony.

The state-of-the-art, four-floor facility will open in August and will provide an extra 113 boarding places for students aged 12 to 18 in single and twin en-suite rooms.

The topping out ceremony also signifies the boarding house development’s next stage which includes the multi-million-pound refurbishment of the existing facilities.

Mark Venn-Dunn, Head of Boarding at ACS Cobham, commented: “This investment reflects our commitment to providing second-to-none facilities and a boarding experience which is ‘home-away-from-home’ for each individual student in our care.”

The new building will include eight different social and study areas, accommodation for boarding staff and a medical centre. Central to its modern design is the triple height entrance atrium, specifically built for the project, covering a 15ft tree.

Once completed, the project will allow the school to increase its seven and five-day boarding options, alongside its flexi-boarding offer.

“Our new facilities will only add to our ‘family-style’ atmosphere, as students will be able to host movies in our purposefully-designed cinema room; prepare and eat meals together in the large kitchens; or even find a quiet and peaceful corner for studying,” added Mark.

As well as renovated student bedrooms and study areas with new flexible furniture, the existing boarding house will also feature the very latest housekeeping facilities including cutting-edge, water efficient laundry amenities.
