Art from the Heart

Lockers Park School Raises £1,498 for GOSH

Posted by Charley Rogers | February 16, 2017 | School life

Pupils at Lockers Park Preparatory School in Boxmoor brushed up their art skills before Christmas all in the name of a good cause. Each pupil, from Reception through to Year 8, created a work of art to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), totaling an amazing £1,498.

The school chose to support this fantastic cause as one of its pupils, Rupert Cross (age 8) was treated at GOSH last summer.  Rupert is now on the road to recovery and has returned to school this term.

Pupils based their designs on hearts to create emotive pieces of artwork under the supervision of teachers at the school’s highly-regarded Art Department. A variety of masterpieces were produced, from collages through to pencil drawings and paintings.

Headmaster Christopher Wilson commented: “Pupils and staff alike were tremendously inspired by Rupert’s bravery and were unanimous in wanting to support Great Ormond Street Hospital as part of the school’s Christmas charity campaign. Parents were encouraged to donate as much as they could for each design to help towards buying a new cell processor which is used to prepare samples for bone marrow transplants, helping more children with leukaemia and immune deficiencies to receive the care they deserve.”

Laura Savory, Senior Fundraising Manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity said: “We’re so grateful to Lockers Park School for their support. The money raised will help to make a huge difference to young patients and families from across the UK”.
