Dauntsey’s year 11 pupil, Polly Maton, has been selected to compete in the Rio Paralympics. Maton has been named among the 41 athletes added to Team GB’s athletics team this week.

The 16 year-old, a Team Devizes (Moonrakers) Athletics Club member who trains out of the University of Bath, is a T46 (single below or above the elbow amputation category) 100m and 200m runner.

She will make her Paralympic debut in Rio, having reached the long jump final at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Doha.

Maton was named Wiltshire’s senior female athlete of the year at the 2015 Wiltshire Athletics Awards after becoming a triple world champion at the IWAS World Junior Games and a double gold medallist at the Brazilian Paralympic School Games, having only made her international debut in 2014.

Talking about the news, Polly said: “I am thrilled to have been selected to represent my country at the Rio Games and am very much looking forward to the experience.”

Marcus Olsen, Director of Sport at Dauntsey’s, said: “This is an amazing achievement for Polly and we are delighted that she has been selected for Rio. She is a fantastic role model and proof that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

“In between all her training she was busy working hard for her GCSEs last term and will be eagerly awaiting her results on 25 August.”
