Marcus meets Marcus as Trescothick welcomes Harris to Taunton School

Marcus Harris, who opens the batting for Western Australia and for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash competition, has joined the cricket coaching team at Taunton School. He’s come to England for the summer to play for Taunton CC and will also be coaching at Taunton School alongside another recent appointment, Marcus Trescothick, the Somerset CCC captain and former England batsman, the school’s new cricket development coach.

Harris has played 22 first-class matches in Australia – with an average of 29.12 – and was a regular for the Scorchers in last winter’s Big Bash. He made headlines on his debut as an 18-year-old for Western Australia, becoming the youngest Australian to score a first-class 150. His 157 against Queensland broke a 115-year record held by former Australia batsman Clem Hill.

Trescothick, meanwhile, recently opened the batting against Middlesex alongside Old Tauntonian Tom Abell, the school’s record run-scorer. The pair shared a 50 partnership, with Trescothick going on to make 140, including a six and 22 fours. Harris notched up an innings of 122 for Taunton CC in a friendly against Wellington.
