Cranleigh Preparatory School has announced that Michael Wilson will be stepping down as Headmaster at the end of the summer term 2018. He will not be leaving the Cranleigh family of schools but will join Cranleigh Abu Dhabi as Headmaster, from July 2018.

Cranleigh’s Board of Governors has already begun to work with Michael and his senior management team to ensure appointment of his successor in a timely manner. The Board aims to announce the new Head by the end of this Michaelmas term.

We are immensely grateful for his outstanding years of service and absolutely delighted that he will remain within the Cranleigh family

Cranleigh’s Chairman of Governors, Adrian Lajtha, said in a statement, “Over the ten years of his leadership, Michael has truly served and enhanced our special Cranleigh ethos. He has appointed an exceptional Common Room, and transformed the campus, curriculum and co-curricular offering; but above all he has created at CPS a wonderful culture where children can flourish. The Board of Governors is highly appreciative that he will leave the school in excellent shape and we look forward to working with staff, pupils and parents to ensure the best of futures for the school. We are immensely grateful for his outstanding years of service and absolutely delighted that he will remain within the Cranleigh family.”

Following roles as teacher in Kenya, teacher and housemaster at Cranleigh Senior School, and Head of Sixth Form at Bradfield College, Michael worked in Phuket helping Dulwich College International to set up its first global school. He then returned to Cranleigh to become Housemaster of Loveday, moving to become Headmaster of Edge Grove School, where he stayed for six years before returning to Cranleigh.  He has spent the last ten years there as Headmaster, leading the Prep School through the most successful decade in its 100-year history.

During the past five years he has also been instrumental in establishing Cranleigh Abu Dhabi from its inception to its current place as the leading school in the UAE. As Education Director and a Board member for CAD he has worked hard to create a global family of the Cranleigh schools. With his new appointment the Cranleigh family will continue to work together at the forefront of educational thinking and practice.
