Jacqueline Harvey visits Edge Grove School

Edge Grove prep school welcomes best-selling children's author Jacqueline Harvey in celebration of Book Week

Posted by Dave Higgitt | February 16, 2015 | School life

Independent day and boarding school Edge Grove recently welcomed children’s author Jacqueline Harvey through its school gates for this years’ Book Week. Jacqueline has written two series of books and has sold more than 650,000 books in Australia alone. One of her stories is currently being transformed and adapted for a television series.

Jacqueline’s books are about Alice-Miranda, a fictitious young girl who attends a boarding school called Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale, which the author has personally likened to Edge Grove in terms of the building and grounds. She has also written another series about a character called Clementine Rose. The children at Edge Grove School were treated to a special talk from the children’s author about her stories and characters.

Jacqueline Harvey commented on the school: “We had an absolute ball at Edge Grove, it’s a gorgeous school. When I drove through the gates and saw the Dartmoor ponies, the pool, the magnificent grounds and the beautiful school house with its lake, my first thought was, this is definitely a lot like Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale. Fortunately, the headmaster came out of his office to greet us and was charming, unlike the book’s character and headteacher Miss Grimm!”

Jacqueline’s next book launch involves 500 children attending a high tea at the Four Seasons in Sydney.

Ben Evans, headmaster at Edge Grove School, commented: “It was a great honour to welcome Jacqueline to our school. The children really got a lot out of it because she is very inspiring and creative by nature. It is great to put some context into Book Week for the children and meeting a great author really helps to do that.”
