Levitt Bernstein begins work on three independent schools

Levitt Bernstein reveals three ambitious projects with independent schools across the UK

Architectural practice Levitt Bernstein is celebrating three of its school projects starting on site this month.

The three schools are all ambitious in their plans and offer up similar challenges in terms of integrating modern facilities in historic contexts.

At King’s Bruton in Somerset, a new music department will transform a currently disused corner of the 16th century estate to accommodate all of the school’s musical facilities, including teaching and rehearsal space, a recital hall and industry-specification recording suite.

Similarly, in South Wales, a new performing arts centre will replace an old gymnasium adjacent to the main listed building at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls. This will provide a centrally located facility for music, drama and dance, including a recital hall.

At Eltham College in Bromley, an existing wing will be demolished to make way for a new building, which will house multiple classrooms, seminar space and a sixth form study centre. A new purpose built wellbeing pavilion with specialist treatment, counselling and rest rooms, will also be introduced.

Victoria Turner, Associate Director at Levitt Bernstein, said: “We’re delighted to see these three projects progress and are looking forward to our proposals being realised over the coming months.  This milestone reflects our growing specialism in the education sector, and particularly, in designing high quality and technically demanding buildings on constrained school estates.”

All projects are due for completion in 2018.
