Milton Abbey School announces new girls’ house
The Dorset-based school will open its second girls' day and boarding house in September 2018
Citing high demand for places, Milton Abbey School has announced it will open its second girls’ day and boarding house in September 2018.
School Head, Magnus Bashaarat, said: “It is now over eleven years since girls first joined Milton Abbey in the sixth form and five years since our move to full co-education. Over the past few years the numbers of girls joining the School has increased to such an extent that Hodgkinson House – or Hughies as it is more commonly known – is now full, and we are having to turn away prospective pupils.
‘This is testament to the huge success of co-education at Milton Abbey and due in no small part to the happy, supportive and nurturing atmosphere that has been created in Hughies. Girls are contributing at the highest level across all areas of school life in a way that would have been inconceivable only ten years ago.”
Mrs Emma Williams has been announced as the Housemistress for the new girls’ house, Damer House. She currently teaches French and Spanish at Milton Abbey, helps with the School’s Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and is an Assistant Housemistress.
