New sustainability education resource for teachers
Bristol 2015 launch new website full of resources to support teachers in engaging young people about sustainability
A new sustainability education resource for teachers created by digital agency Positive and Bristol 2015 has been shared with organisations from around the world at COP21 in Paris.
Positive, who are based in Bristol, designed and built the responsive website (developed on Drupal CMS) featuring a range of resources on the topic of sustainability, including the award-winning Sustainable Shaun game that Bristol 2015 created with Aardman animations.
Called Sustainable Learning, the website will enable Bristol 2015 to engage four million children and young people nationwide in their schools programme online, as well as connect schools with sustainability experts.
We worked closely with an advisory panel of teachers to assess the most important features required from a website, this included the functionality and filters on the site, navigation, design and how easily they could share resources with colleagues and their class
Bristol 2015, set up by Bristol City Council to bring to life the city’s year as the UK’s first European Green Capital, were at the international climate conference to share their schools programme, including this new digital resource, with organisations who support engaging young people in sustainability and climate change through education.
Jo Taylor, Head of Education at Bristol 2015 said: ‘We’re delighted to have launched our new website, packed full of inspirational lesson plans and resources to support teachers in engaging young people about sustainability through curriculum learning in the classroom.
“We worked closely with an advisory panel of teachers to assess the most important features required from a website, this included the functionality and filters on the site, navigation, design and how easily they could share resources with colleagues and their class.”
The schools programme has been designed for learning to be fun and include the five sustainable themes of Bristol’s year: energy, food, nature, resources, and transport. All the Sustainable Learning resources are linked to the national curriculum and will be shared as good practice across the UK.
The resource is available now at: www.sustainablelearning.com
