Nottingham High School is making history with the announcement of its first ever Head Girl who will carry out the role alongside a new Head Boy.
Emma Corden, who was one of the first girls to join the school last September, has been named as Head Girl and Tom Walton, who has been at the school since year three, becomes the School’s Head Boy. In addition, Sonia Bennett will be Deputy Head Girl and Will Banks, Deputy Head Boy. All four students are currently in year 12 and will take on these roles at the beginning of the new academic year in September 2016.
They were chosen from 14 shortlisted candidates who were all interviewed by a panel of senior staff following an application process which included a written application form and voting from their own year group, the current leadership team and the staff at the school.
The admission of girls into the school has been phased with 41 girls joining the sixth form in September 2015 as well as a mixed intake of pupils in reception, year one and year two. In September 2016 there will be an intake of girls into all year groups, which will take the number of girls in the school up to nearly 150.
“We are really pleased to announce our first Head Boy and Girl team” said Kevin Fear, headmaster at Nottingham High School. “We had many extremely strong candidates which made the decision very difficult but I am sure that Emma and Tom will rise to the challenge of taking on these new roles. Emma and Tom are excellent examples of the well-rounded, quietly confident students that the High School develops.”
