Portland Place pupils enjoy new facilities

The Westminster school have invested in new facilities, including sixth form common room and library

Portland Place independent school has revealed a new library, three times bigger than its previous one, as well as a large ICT suite, a new multi-purpose classroom, and enhanced school areas dedicated to sixth form students. The school has also added three improved reception areas - one for each of its buildings.

The library now accommodates up to twenty pupils, and is an important learning space for the school. The new computer room is significantly bigger, containing fifteen new PCs, and is also fully air conditioned. In addition, reception areas have been added to create a more welcoming environment for parents and guests in the school buildings.

Sixth Form students can now study in three additional areas, which help to support their independent learning. The common room has been refreshed to give the students a better learning environment, and there is also a new Sixth Form study room and separate computer room.  Furthermore, students have free access to a local university gym.

The investment comes following successful results achieved by Portland Place pupils in August. The school saw a 100% pass rate, with 38% of pupils achieving A*-A grades at A-Level; a figure that is up from 19% the previous year. GCSE results were also celebrated, with 84% of pupils achieving A*-C grades.

David Hyman, Headmaster at Portland Place School, has said: “I have very much enjoyed listening to the response from our pupils and parents this past week, in regards to the large scale changes that have taken place. Pupils are particularly enjoying using the brand new library, and have also welcomed the new Computing classroom. The pupils deserve these fantastic new facilities to support their incredible academic achievements and we are looking forward over the next year to working with all of our students to continue to achieve outstanding results.”

Portland Place School is an independent co-educational school for children aged 8 -18, located directly in the heart of the City of Westminster.
