Rydal Penrhos victorious in golf contest
Talented golfers at Rydal Penrhos got their season off to the perfect start with a notable success
The young stars defeated Ellesmere College 2-1 in the first round of the ISGA Matchplay on Wednesday, September 21, and they await either Oswestry or Shrewsbury School in the next round.
The contest, which was contested in a Ryder Cup style format, also saw the three lowest handicap golfers taking centre stage during the matchplay.
Wales international Reuben Bather and scholar Charley Simpson produced a pair of sensational rounds to emerge victorious, with Noah Weidenmann putting up a good fight before narrowly losing.
Other members of the team then competed against Ellesmere, and continued Rydal Penrhos’ fine day at the office to record an impressive 7-1 win overall.
Golf Academy co-ordinator Ian Richardson, said: “Well done to everyone for their efforts in what was a superb win against a strong Ellesmere College side.
“There were some great performances and very comprehensive wins across the board.”
The school’s golfers will be looking for further success this week at the ISGA Scottish Open in Midlothian.
