St Margaret’s School announces new head
Lara Péchard will join the Hertfordshire institution in the New Year
Hertfordshire-based independent day and boarding school, St Margaret’s, has announced the appointment of Lara Péchard as its new headteacher, following the departure of Rose Hardy at the end of the last academic year.
Péchard will take up the post in January, alongside the start of the school’s staggered transition towards becoming fully coeducational.
Julie Chatkiewicz will assume the role of acting head for the autumn term.
“St Margaret’s is an inspirational school steeped in great tradition and reputation,” said Péchard, “and I’m truly excited about the changes we have planned from January next year and the new journey that lays ahead.
“The diversity of the school’s pupils and its strong international culture also make for a rich and rewarding collaborative learning environment for both boys and girls, something I’m confident I can nurture.”
Currently principal deputy head at Norwich School, Péchard has a keen interest in improving mental health provision for young people. This was recognised in April, when she won the Senior Leader Award 2018/19 at Mind’s Workplace and Wellbeing Awards.
Péchard is also experienced in staff training and welfare, as well as safeguarding and pastoral provision.
“I’m keen on encouraging a sense of team around careers and academic interests, whatever the age or gender,” said Péchard. “Whether you are a potential medic, a budding designer or an aspiring historian, I believe there should be a programme that works for you, one that you have the ability to shape.”
