Year 6 pupil completes birthday challenge ahead of schedule
Rydal Penrhos pupil, Daisy Yates, has climbed every peak in Wales higher than 3,000 feet
Daisy Yates, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, set herself the staggering challenge of scaling every peak in Wales that stood more than 3,000 feet before her 11th birthday.
This involved successfully navigating 15 mountains including the infamous Crib Goch, Tryfan and Snowdon, and her determination meant she completed the challenge with a week to spare.
Daisy loves the outdoors and has recorded some impressive feats, with the pupil also scaling two of the largest peaks in the French Alps during the summer holidays. This began with Pointe de Bellegarde, which stands at 2,514 metres in height. Daisy then continued her journey by tackling the 2,980 metre Pic du Lac Blanc.
She also managed to complete the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil, which stands at more than 1,000 metres.
Prep School Head, Alison Hind, said: “This is an absolutely extraordinary achievement from Daisy and one that she can be enormously proud of. The way she motivates herself and sets tough challenges such as this is a testament to her overall attitude both in and out of the classroom, and Daisy embodies everything we look to install into each pupil under our care here at Rydal Penrhos.”
