When the floor of the multi-functional sports hall at Holly Lodge Girls’ College in Liverpool, Merseyside, became worn, the search for a new surface quickly led to the natural choice of Gerflor for a premium solution offering the users at the facility optimum comfort, safety and performance. After considering the range of products available, Taraflex™ Evolution was selected as the most appropriate and versatile for the huge range of sports played within the hall.

Holly Lodge caters for over 1,200 students aged between 11–19 years. The four-court badminton hall is used by the students and let out to other organisations in the evenings and at weekends. Consequently, the demands on the floor are huge with the sports played ranging from five-a-side football and badminton to cricket and trampolining.

Gerflor visited the college and worked through the various flooring options with staff to ensure the best product was selected. Taraflex™ Evolution was a natural choice, as it is ideal for multi-sports halls whilst providing safety and comfort.

Importantly, it provides a 32% force reduction in accordance with EN 14904 standard for indoor sports floors. It is available in 15 colourways and two wood designs. Although Gerflor regularly puts clients in touch with contractors, the college’s own contractors undertook the installation. The process was relatively easy: the old floor was stripped back to the concrete slab, the surface latexed and the Taraflex™ Evolution laid. Taraflex™ Evolution incorporates a number of innovative features including dynamic double-density CXP (cellular extreme process) foam backing for unparalleled comfort, and D-Max, a multi-layer surface to ensure maximum performance throughout the product’s lifetime.

A glass fibre mesh reinforces the product, contributing outstanding dimensional stability and improved indentation resistance while allowing free floating installation. Triple-action Protecsol® benefits the facility in terms of easy maintenance.
