Work is underway on a major new construction project at a Surrey independent school.
Once complete, the 2,500m2 extension to Greenfield School will house dining, teaching and sports facilities.
Responsibility for the development has been given to Darwin Group – a specialist in modular building methods, using only sustainable materials – whose turnkey service covers design, planning, engineering and construction.
The firm’s use of modern methods of construction means that the whole project is slated to take only 43 weeks, with the initial building steps being conducted at its Shrewsbury headquarters.
Founded in 1935, Greenfield School moved from its town centre site to more spacious surrounds on Old Woking Road two years ago.
“The school’s new location has provided our design team with a blank canvas and it has been our pleasure creating the plans for the new facilities,” said Charles Pierce, managing director of Darwin Group.
“We are delighted to enter the construction phase of the build and we look forward to seeing the vision come to life.”
Darwin Group will also take care of the landscaping element of the project.
Designed to be a combination of eye-catching and functional, the new-build utilises large floor-to-ceiling windows to offer a spacious learning environment with plenty of natural daylight.
“When Greenfield School approached Darwin Group we were looking for a contractor that would understand our detailed requirements, work wholly in partnership with us, and design and build a state of the art, eye-catching facility which will play a key role in the next step in Greenfield School’s history,” said the school bursar, Meg Gardiner.
“We are confident that we have found this in Darwin Group and the whole school community are excited to embark on this journey, as well as to inhabit the finished product.”
