Accolades for cricket at Dauntsey’s

Dauntsey’s cricket programme has been recognised by the professional cricketing world

The School has been awarded the South Region nomination for this year’s Forty Club Trophy. This nomination, made by the Forty Club, is in recognition of the high quality of cricket within the School and the manner in which the 1st XI players embrace the spirit of cricket demonstrated by their teamwork, sportsmanship, captaincy, and behaviour on and off the field alongside their overall cricketing skills.

The aim of the Club since 1936 has been ‘to take cricket to the schools’ by offering Schools and Youth XIs fixtures against experienced cricketers who will encourage the young cricketers to play the game to the highest standards of performance and behaviour and in the best spirit of the game.

Dauntsey’s has also been named as one of the top cricketing schools in the country by a leading cricket magazine. The Cricketer has placed Dauntsey’s in the top 100 cricketing schools in Britain after being selected from hundreds of applicants to make the list.

Head of Cricket, Andy Palmer, said: “We are honoured that our cricket programme has been recognized by these two highly prestigious organisations.  It reflects the huge effort that we have made to develop our cricket and facilities in recent years.

“We are very fortunate to have a great team of coaches, including our cricket professional Jon Ayling who makes a considerable contribution in bringing the best out in the boys, not only in terms of results but also teamwork and sportsmanship.  We look forward to cricket at Dauntsey’s going from strength to strength.”

Over recent years, the cricket programme at Dauntsey’s has experienced a significant period of growth and development. The fixture list is challenging, with block fixtures against large, strong cricketing schools such as Clifton and Winchester in addition to games with adult teams including MCC, XL Club and Wiltshire Queries. The school is also improving its cricket net facilities with the provision of five all-weather astro surfaces.
