Managed by a Board of Trustees, the purpose of the Denstone Foundation is to support the development of Denstone College by providing an enduring endowment which will help meet the changing needs of independent education and assist in providing the necessary resources and facilities.
Its strategy is long term and aims to establish an ethos of regular giving to enable it to underpin the education provided for Denstonians. However, the College firmly believes that development and the Foundation are more than just a means of raising funds – they are for re-establishing past friendships and for renewing contacts with the College.
The challenge: to improve quality of communication with alumni
Judy Teather, development director at Denstone College explains: “We were relying on Excel as the source for alumni information but it was very difficult to extract accurate information easily and was time-consuming to update over 4,000 alumni. After reviewing a number of products we realised that webALUMNUS from WCBS was the one we needed. The great thing about webALUMNUS is that it allows our ‘Old Denstonians’ (ODs) the ability to update their own information themselves. This gives them more control, helps maintain the accuracy of data and makes data capturing more efficient.”
The ‘feel-good factor’ encouraged through Friend-Raising programme
Since upgrading, Denstone College has the ability to make more regular and more targeted contact on a variety of topics.
“We don’t just communicate with ODs about fund-raising,” says Judy, “we also encourage them to network with other alumni as well as current pupils as part of our ‘Friend-Raising’ programme. With the in-depth search facilities we can create invites to events according to all types of factors. This means it is much easier to arrange reunions and networking events for ODs, pupils and parents.”
