Heathfield School, in Ascot, has appointed Carys Willimott as head of sport.
In her new role, Willimott will be responsible for delivery of the physical education curriculum; the sports that sit within Heathfield’s cocurricular programme; regular midweek and weekend fixtures; and the management of external coaches for activities such as tennis, trampolining and personal fitness. She will also coordinate house sport competitions and prep school events, including lacrosse, swimming and netball.
Commenting on her new role, Willimott said: “Sport plays an extremely important role in the life of all girls at our school – it is about learning, developing, and having fun. We are competitive, motivated and ambitious, and extremely proud of every girl who represents the school and their houses.”
Willimott is currently co-captain for the Eagles netball team in South Regional 1 League, having previously played in the national Premier League 2. She was part of the England Performance Pathway throughout her youth, and represented Hertfordshire and the South East in swimming and athletics.
“The sense of achievement and belonging you have as part of a team is indescribable,” added Willimott. “The only thing that comes close to my passion for sport is my passion for teaching – it’s so important to take part in as many activities as possible when you are developing into a young adult. The physical, psychological and emotional health benefits of participating in physical activity are worth their weight in gold.”
