The sports centre has been named after former England rugby international Maurice Colclough who was an alumnus of the school and captained its 1st team. Sadly, Maurice died from a brain tumour in 2006.
Bill played with Maurice for both England and the British Lions during the 1980s, so was honoured to perform the opening by unveiling a plaque at the sports centre on December 11. Also present were Maurice’s wife Annie and their four daughters along with the school’s current 1st rugby and hockey team members.
Chris Russell, Executive Principal of the school, said: “Maurice Colclough is one of our most famous alumni who starred on our rugby pitches. Therefore, it seems a most fitting tribute to name our great new sports facility after him. We are grateful to Bill Beaumont for opening the centre and to Maurice’s family for attending.”
