Following their success in the English Schools’ Ski Association (ESSkiA) regional races in September; four Bedford Modern School students have qualified for the British Schools Championships after a full weekend of racing and a great performance this month at the National Championships in Norwich.
The best school teams in England came together to compete against each other in various age categories. The BMS U16 team, comprising three year nine students and one year seven student, were placed eighth. The U19 team, comprising year 13, 12, 11 and 10 students, achieved tenth place. The best three times from each run were taken as an aggregate time which gave the resultant ranking.

The following day, the fastest four skiers from each school then took part in the Open Competition, which follows a harder course with the aim of qualifying to compete at the British Schools Championships against the Home Nations in Pontypool, South Wales in November. The team achieved seventh place out of 22.
Andrew Slater, Head of BMS Ski Club, said: “I am really proud of all of the boys who took part in this event. It is a fantastic achievement to reach the British Championships and I wish them the very best of luck.”
