Bredon pupil is top clay pigeon shot

Schools Challenge competition sees Bredon School pupil crowned shooting champion

Tom Scott, shooting captain of Bredon School, is the new champion of The Schools Challenge.

The Schools Challenge is the largest young shots organisation in the UK and has a broad network of independent schools taking part. In addition to improving sporting skills, competing and training for The Schools Challenge encourages participants to transfer the discipline and focus learned into the rest of their lives, including their studies.

16 year-old Tom Scott won the competition to become the best young shot in the UK. Tom has taken part in The Schools Challenge for over two years and had a scholarship to Bredon, where he headed up the shooting team, and as such his skills have gone from strength to strength. The shooting discipline has impacted his wider life, including helping to give him leadership skills as captain of his schools shooting team and implementing more focus in his school work.

Bredon School Headmaster, David Ward, said: ‘I am delighted with the recent results from the Schools Challenge, particularly for the Bredon students who have worked tremendously hard throughout the season to practice and pull in great results from all the stages.

‘Clay shooting is a big part of the sports curriculum here at Bredon and our team grows in number every year. Shooting helps to develop discipline, concentration and a competitive edge.

‘We have even invested in our own shooting ground at the school. The results from the final of the 10th School Challenge competition shows that investment to be worth it.’

Tom Scott said: “The shock of my win at The Schools Challenge 10th Anniversary Final is still yet to sink in! It was a bit of a joke in my family for a while, but I never actually thought it would happen. Of all the achievements from my time competitive shooting, this is the most encouraging as every single competitor shot exceptionally well on the day.

“Learning to shoot through The Schools Challenge has not only given me a sporting advantage, but competing and captaining the shooting team at Bredon has taught me new leadership skills, and given me a level of focus and discipline that I never had before. It translates into my studies and the rest of my life. I can now focus on bigger and better thing has I have found that shooting has increased my confidence a huge amount.”
