On Friday 19 June, Macmillan Cancer Support will be holding its annual Dress and Up and Dance fundraising initiative. The event encourages teachers and group leaders to sign up and ask their students to get dressed up and have a dance, in exchange for making a suggested donation of £2 to Macmillan. This year’s theme is ‘legends’, with participants turning out as their favourite pop icon, superhero, sports personality or film star.
Macmillan has worked with Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools to put together a free fundraising pack containing teaching resources, including online dance routine tutorials, cut-out animal masks, educational activity sheets and assembly plans.
Now in its third year, Dress Up and Dance raised £200,000 in 2014, with more than 3,000 schools registered to take part. The money raised helps children and families whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Events needn’t be on 19 June and schools, nurseries and uniform groups are welcome to choose another date if that’s more suitable.
