Derby girls are top dogs in card comp

Two Derby High School students have had their greetings card designs manufactured after winning a national competition

Millie Bullivant and Megan Washbrook won the contest which was run by Thewlis Graham Associates, an executive search consultancy based in London.

The brief was to design an A6 greetings card with the theme being ‘The World of Work’.

Millie’s ‘Top Dog’ design, which was a photograph of her own dog behind a desk, won overall and Megan’s card, which featured a map of the world with Thewlis Graham’s six values written across it, received a Directors’ Award.

The cards have been manufactured by Thewlis Graham and will be used by the company for a number of reasons including ‘congratulations on your new role’ and ‘thank you.’

The girls also won gift vouchers.

Millie said: “I was pleased as I hadn’t really thought about the competition after submitting my entry. I liked the photo, my sister had to sit behind our dog, Teddy, with a treat while I was taking the picture.”

Megan said: “I’m not the most creative person and my first idea was to do a globe in someone’s hands but I thought that wasn’t original. I looked on the company’s website and found their values and thought it would be good to use them.”

Lesley Hough, Head of Design Technology at Derby High, said: “The girls responded really well to what was a difficult brief. As well as the vouchers they also received lovely certificates. It’s given Megan a real confidence boost and Millie did really well to win. Well done to both of them.”
