Primary schools are being encouraged to take part in a new digital challenge.
More than 2,200 schools have signed up to take part in Discovery Education’s ‘Spotlight on Strategies Challenge’ – a free 12-week programme which helps teachers to introduce technology across the curriculum.
The initiative gives primary schools access to a handpicked range of ideas and resources, enabling teachers to use digital media in every lesson. With topics linked to each area of the National Curriculum, Spotlight on Strategies helps teachers make every lesson digital.
Created by teachers for teachers, creators say that the activities are easy-to-use and highly engaging for pupils, bringing lessons to life by drawing upon multi-media resources such as video clips, games and e-books.
Teachers signing up to ‘Spotlight on Strategies’ receive one new teaching idea each week, and innovative teaching resources from educators around the world. Schools also benefit from access to Discovery Education Espresso – the award-winning digital learning service – providing thousands of high-quality multimedia resources to support interactive teaching and learning.
One of the schools taking part in the Spotlight on Strategies Challenge is St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in London. Teacher Daniel Ferry said:
‘As the strategies are created by teachers, they are very accessible, easy to implement and pedagogically thoughtful. The diversity of the strategies means that students can take a fresh approach and their learning through digital media is creative and relevant.”
Also taking part is Grangehurst Primary School in Coventry. Assistant Head Teacher Gemma Clarke said:
“SOS fever has spread through Grangehurst! The Spotlight on Strategies have influenced teaching across our school and helped engage children in their learning more than ever before.”
