Down to a (social) science

Stepnell begins work on Oakham School’s new Social Sciences faculty

Construction work has started on Oakham School’s new, state-of-the-art Social Sciences Faculty. Stepnell is working on the brand-new three-storey building which will offer learning facilities for the School’s Business Studies, Economics, Politics and Citizenship departments..

The new development is a further extension to the school’s existing Merton Building.

“This latest phase of development will provide yet more first-rate classrooms and facilities for Oakham’s students,” says Simon Piggott, Oakham School’s director of operations and strategic planning. “The facility, which is costing in the region of £2 million, will house classrooms, presentation rooms, offices and flexible learning spaces.  It will also mirror the business world in its styling and décor – which should help to prepare those students studying Business, Economics, Politics and Citizenship for corporate life and the world of business.”

Stepnell, has already worked with Oakham School a number of times, as have GSSArchitecture, who designed the building.  “We are very excited to be working once again with Oakham School and look forward to creating the Social Sciences Faculty which will provide first-class facilities designed and built to the very highest standards,” says Stepnell area manager Colin Moore. Last year Stepnell finished work on a three-storey extension of the Merton Building for the School’s Geography, Philosophy, Religious Studies and Learning Support departments. In 2011, Stepnell also completed construction work on Oakham School’s Mehra Faculty of Science building.

The new facilities will be ready for Oakham’s students to use at the beginning of the new academic year in September 2016.
