British School Muscat
Lexonik was introduced in British School Muscat in 2018. It is a high-performing school, recently awarded International School of the Year. Despite existing success and achievements, they sought to work in partnership with Lexonik to raise attainment even further through the introduction of Lexonik Advance.
BSM-nominated staff experienced the two-day training programme, conducted on site by the Lexonik team. Immediately after their training, BSM staff started delivery of the Lexonik Advance programme to their students (one hour per week over six weeks).
Results
Average gain in reading ages in the initial cohort was 19 months, with the second cohort seeing an average reading age gain of 22 months within six weeks.
Impact
Teachers have commented on the impact of Lexonik within mainstream lessons, with a particular improvement in student confidence with spelling even with complex academic language.
The competitive and challenge-based nature of Lexonik was a real success by not only engaging and motivating students but providing them with the academic skills necessary to improve outcomes.
Success
To date 226 students have completed the Lexonik Advance intervention programme across both primary and secondary schools, achieving an average reading age gain of 35 months and highly acclaimed by teachers and students alike.
Subsequently, BSM have committed to a three-year partnership with Lexonik with the intention of widening the Lexonik reach across school and have additional plans for staff to be trained to use Lexonik Spell.
Staff feedback
“It DOES work for ALL levels.”
“Staff and student reactions have been overwhelmingly positive.”
“The momentum in the school is brilliant.”
“With a resolute commitment to supporting children with their literacy learning at the heart of their mission, you could not wish to work with a more professional, dynamic and enthusiastic team. Following the relatively short training programme, colleagues at BSM have been trained, supported and energised to make a substantial difference to children’s literacy development. Why would you consider any other literacy training?” – Kai Vacher, principal, British School Muscat.
