Arts Award at the Telegraph Festival of Education

Arts Award enables young people to progress into further education and employment

Last week the Arts Award team visited the lovely Wellington College to take part in the Telegraph Festival of Education. Arts Award is a unique set of qualifications that supports children and young people up to the age of 25 to enjoy the arts and develop as artists and arts leaders. Young people of all abilities and interests can gain an Arts Award through any arts, media or cultural activity.

The festival was an opportunity to mingle with teachers and educators from across the country and spread the word about Arts Award. We had some interesting conversations with a number of teachers and organisations, finding ways to get started or support ongoing delivery.  Away from our stand, the team took part in some interesting talks and sessions. The variety of content was remarkable: we heard Ofsted head Amanda Spielman discuss the importance of putting a well-rounded curriculum above “accountability hoops”. We got excited at the potential for coding in the classroom with School of Code. We even got involved in a ceilidh!

Overall, the festival was a terrific two days which demonstrated the breadth of exciting ways that teachers are striving to do the best for the children and young people they work with.
