Pupils at Barnard Castle Preparatory School have raised more than £200 for charity.

Barnard Castle Preparatory School chose to back Wear a Hat Day to support a former pupil who recovered successfully from a brain tumour.

Proceeds will go to Brain Tumour Research, a charity that funds centres of excellence studying the all too common ailment.

Pupils and staff also took the opportunity to remember former pupil Kineta Kelsall, now 27, who chose to stay conscious throughout a successful ground-breaking six-hour operation so surgeons at Salford Hospital could speak to her as they removed a tumour from her brain.

All of the staff and pupils got into the spirit bringing some amazing hats to wear to raise much-needed funds for the crucial work of this charity - Laura Turner, Headmistress of Barnard Castle Preparatory School

Headmistress Laura Turner said: “All of the staff and pupils got into the spirit bringing some amazing hats to wear to raise much-needed funds for the crucial work of this charity.

“We are so pleased that Kineta has recovered so well from her operation which shows the great strides that have been made in such a complex area of medicine.”
