Lucinda Hunt, Head of Notting Hill and Ealing High School (NHEHS) since 2008, is retiring in July 2016 after eight successful years. During her time at NHEHS she has been wholeheartedly committed to raising academic standards, as well as overseeing a huge building programme which has transformed facilities at the GDST's oldest school.
The newly-appointed head is Matthew Shoults, MA (Oxon) PGCE (Cantab).
Matthew studied Classics at Worcester College, Oxford. After graduation, he spent two years in the Civil Service before teaching called. While teaching Classics at KCS Wimbledon, he also immersed himself in music, sport and other activities. He moved to North London Collegiate to be Head of Classics in 2004, becoming Deputy Head (Curriculum) in 2010 and Senior Deputy (combining the academic and running the school on a day to day basis) two years later.
Matthew is the first male Head in the school's 143-year history. On his appointment, Matthew said: “Right from my first visit to Notting Hill and Ealing, I have been struck by the school’s warm and friendly atmosphere, and how grounded and assured the girls are. The last 12 years’ teaching has given me a keen sense of the confidence and community which a girls’ only education can provide; I am delighted to be joining a school with such a positive and enabling ethos, which is both academic and rich in activities beyond the classroom, and with such good relations between staff and students.”
