London school opens £3.1m site with HSBC funding

Herne Hill School has opened a new site close by to expand its kindergarten provision

Herne Hill School, based in south-east London, has opened a new £3.1m site with funding from HSBC.

The independent school has opened a new kindergarten a short distance from their original school ground.

Dominik Magyar, director of Herne Hill School, said: “The expansion and refurbishment of the school will allow both pupils and teachers to flourish as we create distinct and unique learning environments to better cater for their specific needs.”

The funding from HSBC has allowed the school to renovate the new site, a Victorian property with period features. The new site will offer a dedicated space for children three years old and younger, while the original site will continue to be for reception and key stage one children.

Mark Oliver, relationship manager at HSBC UK, added: “Since its inception in 1976, Herne Hill School has been dedicated to offering the highest standard of education for young children. This deal helps ensure these high standards will be maintained as the school grows and expands across two sites.”

The funding has also supported the creation of The Bach, an indoor play area at the rear of the building that opens onto a garden, giving the children easy access to explore the outdoors. The Bach is due to be completed by spring 2022.

Ian Robinson, sector head of public sector and education at HSBC UK, said: “We are delighted to support Herne Hill and the wider sector as institutions continue to invest in their facilities for further growth. The UK is a global leader in private education and we look forward to continuing our support as the sector continues to go from strength to strength.”
