St. John’s first- and second-form girls’ netball team returned victorious from the Enfield County Netball tournament which saw 11 schools from the borough hoping to win the title.
After winning through the group stages, St John’s went into a semi-final against St Anne’s School. Although it was 1-1 at the interval, St John’s pupil Adaeze Akande scored two goals and helped secure a 3-2 win.
In the final, St John’s took on The Latymer School. At the interval, this too was 1-1, but the second half saw St John’s securing another three goals to Latymer’s one, resulting in a 4-2 victory.
“Throughout the tournament the girls played superbly,” said the school. “The determination on court was fantastic, with the help of Jasmine Harvey-Stone leading the girls as captain.
The girls have been dedicated and worked really hard this season, it was great way to bring the season to a close. Special mention goes to Eva Carne for her attacking play and determination on court. Also Rebecca Bode-Odeyemi for outstanding defending skills and for the pressure she put on the opposition.”
