Ever wondered what it is like to be responsible for some of the UK’s most interesting premises? Now is your chance. Facilities Management 2014 at the NEC in Birmingham on 11-13 March 2014 will feature a programme of special seminars called ‘A Day in the Life’. These case study based presentations will see industry leading facilities managers, talking about their sites, what they manage and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
Each day will feature one session filled with unique insights into some unusual workplaces and projects undertaken by facilities professionals. The idea behind these practical talks is to give attendees a window into their peers’ roles and help to provide inspiration to take back to the workplace.
Debra Ward, Managing Director at Macro since January 2014, will be the first industry expert to lift the lid on their day. With an MBA in organisational behaviour development and change management, Debra has spearheaded large-scale cultural change programmes for major names. She is a member of The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), and was appointed the Chair of Women in FM in May 2013. She is also a trustee for Women in the City. With such a wealth of experience it is going to be a seminar not to miss. Debra was also MD at Mitie Client Services and finalist in the Sunday Times Top 100.
Macro has been in operation since 2002, and today is operational on four continents and provides strategic and tactical facilities management services on projects as diverse as Invesco’s property portfolio, to running the operation of the Emirates Air Line.
Brendan Murray, FM Business Manager, Compliance and Performance Management at Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) Network Estates, will be Wednesday’s speaker. Having worked for BT, Brendan joined Defra in 2005 where he now manages a team of 3 and a portfolio of 134 buildings which includes foot and mouth burial sites, offices, farms and laboratories. His key responsibilities include the management and monitoring of FM and maintenance delivery across the national portfolio, including auditing compliance to statutory and contractual requirements, Forward Maintenance Register (FMR) projects and the recruitment and training of Incident Control Officers.
Rounding off the three part ‘Day in the Life’ series will be Nick Loveland, Director of Operations at Performances Birmingham (THSH). His responsibilities include the maintenance of both Town Hall and Symphony Hall as well the smooth running of all operations, including the technical and front-of-house teams, bars and box office. Town Hall & Symphony Hall welcome over 500,000 people every year to over 600 concerts and events with a further 18,000 people of all ages enjoying, participating in and learning more about music through the Education & Community programme.
Nick has worked for Performances Birmingham for 23 years, progressing through the organisation as the company has grown from 12 permanent staff to what is now an organisation of 75 permanent and 250 casual staff, with an annual turnover of approximately £10 million.
In addition to The Day in the Life series, Facilities Management will also feature a full exhibition packed with major names, including QCR Recycling Equipment, Bell Plastics, Florprotec, Fireco, MobileWorxs and Lex Autolease. There will also be FM Matters, where experts from some of the biggest names in industry will debate the critical facilities management topics of the day.
