The tendering process is underway and it is hoped that the successful contractor will commence work before the end of term for use in 2015.
Many girls at the school participate in hockey, both curricular and extra-curricular. The need for an astro-turf hockey pitch is long overdue given the changes in the modern game; in fact girls in the competitive teams have been bussed to a local pitch for practice in recent years.
Farnborough Hill boasts 65 acres of parkland and headmistress Sarah Buckle has been keen to ensure that the plans for the pitch will enable it to blend in with its environment. To this end the pitch, fencing and lighting will all be green. The creation of the pitch will enhance existing facilities which include seven tennis/netball courts, two grass hockey pitches and an indoor swimming pool.
Farnborough Hill’s best known hockey player is GB international, Alex Danson, winner of a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and silver medalist in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
