Gold for Year 9 pole vaulter

A pupil from Burgess Hill School for Girls narrowly missed equalling her personal best en route to securing a regional victory

Natasha Corkerton-Purchas from year 9 at Burgess Hill School for Girls competed in the South of England Athletic Association’s Indoor U15/U17 Championships at Lee Valley on the 11 January. She competed as an u15 in the girls’ pole vault for Crawley Athletics Club.
Natasha was pushed all the way to 2.70 metres by Bexley athlete Lois Warden. Lois had three failures at the next height of 2.80 metres whilst Natash cleared the height, leading to her being awarded the gold medal.

Natasha had three attempts to equal her personal best height of 2.90 metres, set in September 2014, but this was not to be.
This early season performance has taken her to equal third in the UK rankings for her age group and she is now training for the Indoor Nationals which take place at the end of February in Sheffield.
