Grange pupil illuminates Downing Street

Fundraising star from Grange Junior School switches on Christmas lights on Downing Street

Grange Junior School pupil and fundraiser, Ted McCaffery, was recently given the honour of switching on the Downing Street Christmas lights for the Prime Minister.

Ted, who is a fundraising ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, was unaware of what was about to happen until his taxi pulled up at No. 10 for his appointment with Prime Minister Cameron.

Mr Cameron presented Ted with a Point of Light award in recognition of his fundraising achievements, and the adversity that he has had to overcome to accomplish them, before inviting eight year-old Ted to switch on the Downing Street Christmas lights.

Ted began fundraising for Alder Hey after undergoing lifesaving open heart surgery.  Initially he wanted to raise enough money to replace a broken television at the hospital, but has since gone on to raise over £20,000.

Earlier this year, Ted received the Independent on Sunday Happy List Award during the annual JustGiving Award ceremony.
