Half of education shadow cabinet stand down

Labour’s education team split as MPs stand down, whilst Conservative team considers party leadership

Following the EU referendum result, the Labour party has lost dozens of MPs in protest at the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. Including several figures from the shadow education cabinet.

Sharon Hodgson MP, former Shadow Education Minister 



 

Jess Phillips MP, former Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Shadow Education Team



 

Pat Glass MP, former Shadow Minister for Children and Families and replacement Shadow Education Secretary following Lucy Powell’s resignation 



In the Conservative party, former Education Secretary Michael Gove is to stand for leadership, current Education Secretary Nicky Morgan is said to be considering her nomination. Nomination is expected to close at midday today.
