Following his official inauguration as Sheriff of the City of London, Alderman Peter Estlin – former Treasurer and Governor of Bridewell Royal Hospital and past Head Boy of King Edward’s Witley – recently invited representatives from King Edward’s Witley to join him at the exclusive Presentation of Addresses Ceremony in the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.
King Edward’s Witley was one of just four organisations selected by Mr Estlin and the gesture is in recognition of the new Sheriff’s long-standing association with the School, which itself enjoys historic links with the City of London dating back to 1553. The Presentation of Addresses provided an opportunity for the Headmaster, Mr John Attwater; the School’s first female Treasurer, Mrs Justine Voisin, Head Girl, Megan Lewis and Head Boy, Oyinbebe Kalabare to present Mr Estlin with a specially commissioned collagraph by King Edward’s Artist in Residence, Matt Tate. The unique artwork celebrates Mr Estlin’s appointment as Sheriff of the City of London and reflected the first steps of his journey as a pupil at King Edward’s Witley and his subsequent involvement with Bridewell Royal Hospital, the School’s Foundation.
In addition to this highly personal keepsake, Mr Estlin was delighted to also receive a book of photographs and testimonials titled ‘Peter at Bridewell: A continuing adventure’.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr Attwater said, “It has been a tremendous honour to join in today’s celebrations marking Peter’s appointment as Sheriff of the City of London, a role which he will excel in because of his extraordinary energy and commitment.
“It is particularly good timing that a former King Edward’s pupil should hold this highly regarded position in the City as the School prepares to commemorate 150 years since its move out of London to Witley in 1867.”
